The Telangana government intends to replace around 4,000 state-run open transport vehicles in Hyderabad, keep running on diesel, with electric vehicles in a staged way, state Municipal Administration Minister K T Rama Rao said.
The minister was talking at the World Environment Week festivities composed here today. UN Environment Executive Director Erik Solheim was available. The administration would likewise present electric vehicles for junk gathering from private settlements, Rao said. By and by, 2,500 auto trolleys are being utilized for junk gathering. The state government would draw out an electric vehicle approach, he said. The metro rail arrange and the Multi-Modal Transport System (MMTS) prepare administrations would be extended in the city to advance open transport, he said. Telangana is number one in the nation in sun based power age at 3300 MW, he said.
“As an environment-friendly measure, we are also introducing, we have nearly 3,800 Road Transport Corporation (RTC) vehicles, public transport system, in Hyderabad. We are phasing them out,” he said.
“We are changing the diesel locomotives. We are bringing in electric vehicles. 500 in the first phase and eventually all 4,000 vehicles will be replaced with electric vehicles,” he said.
Solheim focused on the significance of sun powered solar cells. He valued the enormous tree estate drive (‘Telangana ku Haritha Haram’ program) of the Telangana government. “If you green a city, yes, you make it much more lively. Much better for mother earth. It is also much better for jobs and economy. Because, these green cities of the world are the attractive cities, attracting the best people, the places people want to go,” he said.
